We are currently hiring a Chef/Cook on behalf of one of our valued clients. This role is a great fit for someone who thrives in a remote‑camp environment and takes pride in delivering safe, high‑quality meal service.

About the Role

The Chef/Cook is responsible for day‑to‑day kitchen operations, meal preparation, staff supervision, and maintaining full compliance with safety, sanitation, and HACCP requirements. In camps where no on‑site Camp Manager is present, this role also supports general site operations and ensures that all kitchen and housekeeping staff complete their duties safely and efficiently.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead daily site safety practices and participate in safety meetings
  • Mentor and supervise kitchen staff, ensuring adherence to safety, hygiene, and sanitation standards
  • Maintain personal hygiene, uniform cleanliness, and PPE compliance
  • Coordinate daily with Camp Manager regarding operations, staffing, and scheduling
  • Prepare high‑volume meals according to the 6‑week rotational menu
  • Receive, store, and rotate groceries following food safety guidelines
  • Conduct weekly and monthly food inventories
  • Monitor fridge/freezer temperatures and maintain proper food storage
  • Organize storerooms, coolers, and freezers efficiently
  • Ensure adequate staffing levels and assist with scheduling as needed
  • Oversee meal prep, service standards, and client satisfaction
  • Ensure all kitchen equipment and areas remain clean and sanitized
  • Supervise production and organization of rig boxes and off‑site catering
  • Assist with camp setup and teardown
  • Review budgets, menu planning, and KPIs for each contract
  • Support delivery unloading and loading
  • Perform other duties as assigned by management

Qualifications

Qualifications and Experience:

Skills & Core Competencies

  • Strong creativity in food flavouring, presentation, and menu execution
  • Exceptional attention to detail and commitment to high‑quality standards
  • Excellent time‑management skills to meet daily workloads and service expectations
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to lead, mentor, and support diverse teams
  • Effective leadership skills, including providing coaching, guidance, and constructive feedback
  • Strong conflict‑resolution abilities and the capability to address operational challenges (e.g., equipment or utility issues)

Education & Experience

  • Red Seal Certification or Journeyman Cook Certification (10+ years experience preferred, including 3 years in remote camps)
  • High school diploma
  • English literacy (reading and writing)
  • Basic math skills
  • Proficiency using computers
  • Ability to operate industrial kitchen equipment (grills, ovens, fryers, mixers, etc.)

Personal Requirements

  • Physically capable of lifting up to 50 lbs and standing for long periods
  • Professional, respectful, and client‑focused attitude
  • Strong team‑oriented leadership style with patience and a desire to build a successful crew

Required Certifications

  • Red Seal or Journeyman designation
  • Valid provincially recognized Advanced Food Safe
  • WHMIS
  • Standard First Aid (2‑day course)
  • Additional skill‑specific training is considered an asset

Salary & Other Information

Pay: CA$28.00-CA$32.00 per hour
